Meet Our Graduates
Gary O’ Brien, 2014 Graduate Programme
I have been based in Grange Castle in the Commercial Finance team since starting as a graduate in 2014. During this time, I have gained great insight into how the business operates from both a commercial and financial perspective. While in the programme, my mentor challenged and set targets for my development. This enabled me to adapt to various changes within the business and take on responsibilities which took me out of my comfort zone.
The first project I was involved in was analysing promotions we offer to major customers to see if they were financially. My role involved the day to day activities within Commercial Finance. This allowed me to produce similar reports on certain areas of our foods business such as our Coup de Pates range and Chilled product range. These reports are now being analysed by our UK market as they intend to adapt similar reports on their regions.
I have recently been given the responsibility of analysing the viability of our tender agreements and pricing for our Food-service customers in addition to being heavily involved in the FY17 Product Budget for AFS Ireland. I am constantly learning and networking within the business and identifying ways in which I can improve the opportunities that are available to me.
Chiara Giullani, 2014 Graduate Programme
During my graduate programme I was located in Eisleben, our main production site in the EU. Here I worked in the European Central IT Infrastructure team. I have had opportunities to travel and visit other ARYZTA locations for meetings and IT Audits.
I have been mostly operating as Project Lead for important IT Modernisation streams (NEMA, FSB Spain, ARYZTA Nordic). This was great opportunity for me to learn about the IT Services.
My biggest achievement was managing the migration of NEMA’s 1600 users and 6 plants, estimating costs, ordering equipment, managing finances and coordinating a team of 6 Tech Leads. During these months, I travelled often to FSB Spain and ARYZTA Nordic (Sweden) to coordinate the phases of the EU Modernisation with the Managing Directors and the Plant Managers. For these smaller streams I was responsible for the design.
I have attended monthly review meeting with the EU IT Director and VP IT Infrastructure ARYZTA North America, and dealt with users’ cultural challenges. Communication between management and users has been critical for success. This project was very challenging and its completion gave me great satisfaction. I work with an extraordinary team, who I can challenge and who always support me. I find it very motivating that in ARYZTA you must always give your best and there are no limits to what you can achieve.

One of my biggest projects to date was creating a Customer Satisfaction Survey, which I produced to all our customers and then presented the results to the Managing Director. It is extremely rewarding and encouraging getting to work on projects like this yourself.
The skills I think are required to be successful are to be open- minded, hard- working and just be yourself!

Carmen Ruane, 2016 Graduate Programme
I am on the internal audit team based in Grange Castle, Dublin. My role consists of carrying out audits within the company globally in the different legal entities of ARYZTA and the functions within this. Auditing is carried out in three main stages: the planning, fieldwork & testing and reporting. It is internally looking at wider findings within the company, the risks associated and putting an action plan in place.I applied to the European Graduate Programme because I wanted to work for a plc and be given the opportunity to travel. I also love languages and Aryzta really gives you the chance to utilise this.
So far I have had to carry out audits in our businesses in Poland, UK, Germany, Czech Republic, Singapore. My biggest project to date was getting the opportunity to carry out an audit in our Australian business. The most challenging part of this was to carry out the whole audit in Australia in just two weeks! It was an extremely rewarding and satisfying experience.
The Graduate Programme has given me huge support over the 18 months. I have received external formal coaching sessions from the IMI but also informal coaching sessions internally. We also get the chance to network with the other graduates by working on a project together, which we will present to the Managing Director. My own team has supported and guided me throughout my journey and I have real responsibility within the Audit team now. It really is the perfect start to your career if you are looking for a real job role with learning and development throughout.
